LogoMetrix Demonstration at University of Texas

In early March, LogoMetrix visited the University of Texas at Austin to deliver our first system to Dr. Jan Moore. Ph.D., CCC-A/SLP Licensed Audiologist & Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Professor Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders.

Dr. Moore is doing research into speech improvement with patients of Cochlear Implants. We at LogoMetrix are excited to be a part of Dr. Moore's research and look forward to her data in relationship to the LogoMetrix system. We hope to keep you posted via this web site as to her progress and feedback of the system on a time to time basis.

Some interesting Qs & As from our visit.

Dr. Moore had a morning of practice with the LogoPal in her mouth. Previous to our visit she had her local dentist make and send a stone or hard model impression of her upper teeth and palate to LogoMetrix. We custom fit a LogoPal with its 120 sensors for her and she is seen here wearing it. As some of her peers came by to observe and ask questions we soon realized that there was a concern for hygiene. Not to worry. Each person has his or her own LogoPal custom fit to his or her own mouth and LogoPals are not shared. This meant for a lot relief and a good laugh as we explained that.

Some asked for other applications we intend to address with the system.

While Dr. Moore is using LogoMetrix in her research for Cochlear Implant patients, we intend on using it with:

  • the deaf community
  • learning a second language
  • stroke victims

We fielded questions from some of Dr. Moore's students that seemed to have a central theme of "why hasn't this been done before" Well, the answer to that is somewhat complex and our engineers could tell you, but at this point we are just happy to say it is here now and we look forward to helping as many people as possible.

Dr. Moore is seen here with a LogoBox around her neck, a LogoPal in her mouth and a student/learner to her right with the same equipment. In the background is a laptop computer with the split screen display of the two speakers.

Dr. Samuel Fletcher, chief consultant to LogoMetrix, had the opportunity of speaking to a senior class of Texas Longhorn students about the science behind palatometry and his career in the speech and hearing field. He recounted some of his sessions with the deaf and shared some testimonials of the success behind the LogoMetrix system. Dr. Fletcher is an engaging speaker and interested in the welfare of the therapist, the college student and the speech learner. He is available on a limited basis to speak to your group and we highly recommend his presentation of history, ideology and enthusiasm. Your group will not be disappointed as he inspires and educates with a vitality belying his age. He has devoted his entire career to the advancement of speech therapy and available technology. He has an ability to reference the past with the promise of the future. He motivates and gives focus to those that have dedicated their time and energy to the speech impaired community. We all felt that we were engaged in a worthy and doable cause more so after he spoke than before. If any college student or therapist doubts the value of their efforts, a session with Dr. Fletcher will work miracles. You will walk away with a renewed and fresh approach to your work and study.

Dr. Moore even had and showed to her class a video of Dr. Fletcher and a deaf child, Russell, made in the late 1970s during a session of therapy using the original technology behind the "Palatometer". Dr. Fletcher has a long and distinguished career in this field. In fact, he is the inventor of the original palatometer and has been an involved supporter and consultant all through the process of forming LogoMetrix. We are dedicated to bringing the field of "Palatometry" to every budget. With advances in computers and associated technology we have reduced the size of the computer to that of a deck of cards and improved the performance of the palate many fold. Our engineers know the specifics, but suffice it to say they have reduced the size, increased the performance and best of all lowered the cost to the point that every individual therapist can afford a system. No longer relegated to the well endowed institutional research departments, palatometric science can benefit every practice private or funded.
